Peking University (abbreviated PKU or Beida; Chinese: 北京大学, pinyin: běi jīng dà xué) is a major Chinese research university located in Beijing and a member of the C9 League. Founded as the Imperial University of Peking in 1898 as a successor and replacement of Guozijian (Imperial College), it is the first modern national university established in China. It also served as the highest administration for education in China at the beginning of its founding.
It is the largest school at Peking University with more than 390 faculty and staff members, 1300 undergraduate students, as well as 1300 Master/Ph.D. students. The school of EECS is proud of its world-class faculty who conduct outstanding teaching and cutting-edge research.
As the team grows, we have seen an increasing number of not only leading senior scholars who have been renowned in their respective fields, but also young scholars who have shown great academic potential, specifically including 4 members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), 2 members of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), 3 Distinguished Professors of the Recruitment Program for Innovative Talents, 7 Fellows of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 11 Distinguished Professors of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program, 16 winners of National Science Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholars of China. In addition, our faculty members are actively involved in international initiatives, such as conference chairs, journal editors and paper reviewers.
At present, the main research directions of the laboratory are: perceptual mechanism, perceptual computing, machine learning, intelligent media technology, intelligent interaction technology.
